Geri and Jerry Spino of the Scott Spino Foundation were selected for the 2015 Friend of Education award by the School Administrators Association of New York State, the association announced this week.
The Spinos founded the Scott Spino Foundation in memory of their son Scott Spino — a Rochester City School District teacher who was killed at 28 by a drunk driver in 2004.
Since Scott Spino’s death, the Scott Spino Foundation awarded 29 scholarships, donated ten of thousands of winter clothing items and books to students in need, and invested about $340,000 into the Rochester area through the Scott Spino Literacy and Warm programs. The Literacy program is currently active in 22 Rochester area schools. The Spinos will be honored for their contributions at an awards ceremony on May 8 in Albany.Read More
